I’ve been messing with my Instinct a lot today, and while I was successful in getting some things to work, other things did not.
Since the MR-4 update, there have been a number of third party apps that will now function on the Instinct. The most notable is Opera Mini, which blows the included browser out of the water. The next app that I managed to get working was Palringo, an instant messaging application.
Unfortunately, the list of apps that work well on the Instinct is very short. I was able to get MGMaps working only after enabling developer access on my phone, and I got an older version of Google Maps running as well. One app I wanted to get working was Strands, as it apparently supports scrobbling songs to Last.fm.
I’ll post again if I get anything of interest working.
Zach, Any hacks for getting Google maps or mgmaps working with location? I have dev. access., tried to turn off (CERT) internally but phone doesn’t allow that setting.
Not that I’ve found, yet… Getting any kind of third party applications working well seems to be a bit of a crapshoot.
Hmm, actually, it seems like MGMaps does support GPS location on the Instinct if you download the right version (Sprint) from http://wap.mgmaps.com/
How did you get the palringo to work.How did u even get it on ur phone because i also have the instinct,n want it kinda hacked(games,music,videos) if that possible.Thanks
getting Palringo onto the phone was pretty easy, just user GetJar (go to wap.getjar.com on your phone)
just look up the apps you want on their main page on a computer and get the download codes for those apps for easy download to the phone.
