I’ve got to go return my cable modem, so I’ll be cut off from the internet until I get home. I’ll be posting to Twitter via text message, which should show up in my sidebar.

My last night in San Francisco
It’s my last night in San Francisco. I’ve got most of my apartment cleaned up, and my plan is to finish packing tomorrow, then head to a UPS store to ship some stuff home. I’m taking the red-eye from SFO tomorrow at 11:25pm, and arriving in Louisville at 8am on Friday.
I had one Anchor Steam left, so it seemed appropriate that I drink it tonight. (Anchor Steam is an excellent local beer here in San Francisco.)
First Android Phone: HTC Dream
A video has cropped up that seems to be of the HTC Dream, the first handset that will run Google’s Android operating system. It does have the slide out keyboard that I liked from the Touch Pro, but doesn’t seem quite as nice overall. That said, I’ll gladly take it if it does indeed run Android. I’m hoping that Sprint will offer it, but at the moment, I’ve only heard of it being offered on T Mobile.
Core i7
Intel has announced the branding for their Nehalem processors. Like many others, I was expecting “Core 3″ but apparently it will be called “Core i7.” What that’s supposed to mean, I have no idea, but I’m still looking forward to it.
Internship Over
Well, my internship with VMware ended on Friday. My manager took me and several of the guys I worked with out for lunch at the Thirsty Bear, a brewpub in downtown SF (I had the Polar Bear Lager, yum). Later that afternoon, I went to my last Beer Bash before going to my last intern event at the SF Giants game, so there was plenty of beer all day long.
Now, I’m slowly cleaning my apartment and getting ready to head back to Louisville. Over the next few days, I need to get everything packed and ship a few things home so I don’t have to deal with them. I’ll be home on Friday, and classes start up at the end of the month.
In-Client torrent search for Deluge
Here’s what I’ve been hacking on for the last couple of days:
I’ve been developing a Search plugin for Deluge 1.0. Unlike my previous search plugin from 0.4 and 0.5, this plugin shows the results inside the client, without having to open a web browser. Attached is a screenshot, I’ll be releasing the source very soon.
The plugin works by parsing RSS feeds, and as such it is currently only compatible with Mininova and Isohunt. It also requires python-feedparser to be installed. I’m looking to get more search engines supported, but at the moment, it can only support search engines that offer search results in RSS form.
Update: I now have experimental support for The Pirate Bay, but due to the nature of their RSS feed, it doesn’t display Seeders, Peers, or Size, and it only searches the torrents’ tags.
Forget the iPhone, I want Android
I’ve been following Android for a while now, but the less I heard about it (and the more it got delayed) the more I looked into alternatives. I almost broke down and bought the iPhone 3G, but decided to at least wait until I got back to Kentucky to make a decision on it. Then, yesterday, I saw a forum post stating that an Android beta build had been installed on an HTC TyTn II, and again my interest in the project was back.
HTC is supposedly going to be making one of the first Android phones, so I poked around on their website, and quickly discovered what I want in an Android phone. The HTC Touch Pro looks amazing, and features a physical keyboard, which is a big plus for me. One of my main turn-offs on the iPhone was the touchscreen keyboard, which didn’t seem optimal for typing out emails or text messages.
Sadly, the HTC Touch Pro only runs Windows Mobile 6.1, but I’m hoping someone figures out a way to load Android onto the thing. It’s much thicker than the iPhone (to accomidate for the real keyboard) and only has 512MB of internal ROM (but has a Micro SD slot), but if I could get Android running on it, the hackibility would make up for it’s shortcomings. It also features a front-facing camera, which can allow for video chat, and all the extra goodies that I’d expect in a smartphone (GPA, Wifi, etc.) and a few that I didn’t (FM Radio and TV Out).
The phone isn’t yet available, so I can’t play with one yet, but I’ll try once it comes out here in the states. Apparently, it will be through Sprint, so I wouldn’t have to change carriers. I’d really like to know if it will be upgradable to Android once it is released, because I don’t want to buy a phone now that I won’t be able to run Android on later.
