Computer Problems – RMA

Even though I’ve only had it a few days, my new computer is wigging out on me. The motherboard seems to be bad, and I’m going to RMA it for a new one.

Rather than exchange it for another of the same kind, I’m planning on replacing it with an ASUS board, which I’ve always had good luck with in the past.

Update 06/08/07: I’ve decided to go with a new Intel P35 board instead.  They just came out, and weren’t available when I originally ordered the computer.  But I’m done changing my mind on hardware, really.

Got it

Komodo came in on Friday.  For some reason, UPS forgot to load the case onto the truck that morning, and I had to go and pick it up myself.

Lian-Li continues to impress me with their cases, as this one had several improvements over my previous one.  It now includes a better selection of front panel connectors, filters on all of the fans, and a side vent for a 120mm side case fan.  The really nice thing though, is that the side fan isn’t connected to the window, so it doesn’t create unnecessary vibration.

The hardware itself is running great, too.  My new Core 2 Duo is busy crunching through SETI@Home projects when it doesn’t have anything better to do.  My video card is causing a bit of a bottleneck, but that was expected.  I’m also completely free from IDE on this computer, as both the hard drive and optical drive are SATA.

I’ve already got my spot reserved at Million Man Lan this year, so that’ll be fun.

New Computer!

I don’t have it yet, but my new computer, Komodo, has been ordered.  The specs are as follows:

Komodo:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6420
  • Intel DP965LT Desktop Board
  • 2GB (2x1GB) Corsair VS DDR2-533
  • XFX GeForce 6600GT w/ 128MB VRAM
  • Seagate 160GB SATA2 HDD
  • SONY SATA DVD-RW DL
  • Lian Li PC-60B+ Case
  • ENERMAX 400W Modular PSU

The only thing I didn’t get new was the video card, as I ran out of my budget.  However, I’ll probably replace my aging Geforce 6 at some point, just not now.

I’ll post again once I get the thing put together.
