Screaming like a Banshee

Today I decided to try and manage my music library on my iPod. Unfortunately, Yamipod isn’t really cut out for the mass data transfer I had in mind, so I fired up Banshee (version 0.10.4). Banshee 10.4 seemed to have some stability issues on my system, so I decided to upgrade to 10.6, but the deb wouldn’t install properly, which means… you guessed it! Installing from source. (For those of you that don’t know, I hate installing from source) After fighting with dependencies, I finally got Banshee to compile, which is when I really started to run into problems.
Checkinstall wouldn’t install Banshee, so I had to use ‘make install’ instead. After that, Banshee ran great, but after I imported and sorted about 500 songs, I plugged in my iPod to sync it with my computer… and Banshee promptly crashed. I fired it up again, but it would not recognize my iPod. So I decided to do some package-upgrading, which resulted in Mono not working at all.

My laptop is quite the testament to Linux and the Debian package management system. After all the crap I have put it thorough, there is no way that it should run at all, yet it just keeps working. (With the current exception of mono) It looks like I may be upgrading to Dapper sooner than I thought. (for those of you counting down, we’re just under 2 months until the final release)

Speaking of dissapointments (and iPods for that matter) I was all hyped about the Apple keynote today, to the point where I accessed the live feed during the middle of class and completely ignored the teacher for most of the class. (Fortunately, it’s a computer class, so you can get away with stuff like this) Anyways, what do they announce? An Intel based Mini (which is actually pretty cool, but not what I was hoping for) and an overpriced iPod speaker. Not the new video iPod everyone was hoping for. Oh well, whenever the next upgrade to the iPod comes out, I’ll likely upgrade my 30GB Photo.
